The Peacock (Sunderland Pub) - A5 Original
Every city has a corner that holds its ground — a building that refuses to be overlooked no matter how much changes around it. This original urban sketch of The Peacock captures exactly that quality: a confident Victorian corner pub rendered in warm ochres and sandy golds, its arched windows washed with cool blues that suggest the quiet hum of a place still very much in use. The composition wraps around the building's curve, the eye drawn along the upper storey's row of windows before settling on the bold signage that names it without apology. Street furniture dots the pavement below — bins, a bollard, the ordinary furniture of a working street — and a loosely rendered tree pushes in from the right, softening the roofline with a sweep of blue-green. The ink lines are energetic and unguarded, tracing the facade with the confidence of someone who has looked at it long enough to understand it. A sketch made with genuine affection for a Sunderland landmark that deserves to be remembered.
