The Eagle, Sunderland — A5 Original
Every neighbourhood has a pub that anchors it — a place that has stood at the corner long enough to become part of the landscape itself. This original urban sketch of The Eagle captures exactly that quality: a solid, unshowy building rendered in cool mauves and warm browns, its windows glowing with washes of deep blue that suggest life within even in stillness. A lamp post stands in the foreground, bisecting the composition with the quiet authority of something that has always been there, and loose ink lines trace the roofline, the signage, the shallow steps and the long run of glazing along the front. The palette is restrained — blue, grey, a whisper of warmth in the brickwork — and all the better for it. There is no drama here, only the understated dignity of a local institution, recorded with affection before it fades any further from view.
