A loose line and wash watercolour capturing Sunderland town centre as it once was — before the bridges changed the skyline and the city transformed around them. The tower blocks loom in the background, the high street hums with the energy of a busy Saturday, and the whole scene breathes the particular life of a 1990s North East town centre.
This painting is deeply personal to me. Every Saturday, I’d head into town to meet my Dad — browsing the shops, taking in the bustle, soaking up a Sunderland that felt permanent and full of life. Like so many of the places I paint, it’s a world that has quietly slipped away. I wanted to capture it exactly as I remember it — vivid, familiar, and full of people going about their day.
About this original
This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, created in my loose line and wash style using premium artist-quality watercolours on 100% cotton hot press fine art paper. Hot press paper gives a smooth surface that lends itself beautifully to fine linework and clean washes of colour. Each piece is individually drawn and painted by hand, so small variations, natural marks and imperfections are part of the character of the original rather than flaws.
Please note that colours can appear slightly different depending on your monitor, phone or other screen settings. I do my best to show each artwork as accurately as possible.
Presentation: Unless otherwise stated, the artwork is supplied unframed. The frame shown in any photographs is for display purposes only.
