Penshaw Monument in winter — that familiar silhouette on the hill, now blanketed in snow, with children making their way up to the top to play. There's a quietness to a winter scene like this, but also a sense of joy in it: the crunch of fresh snow underfoot, the cold air, the monument standing as steadfast as ever above it all.
I've lived in and around Penshaw for most of my life, and the monument has always been part of the landscape I call home. This painting captures a side of it you don't often see — peaceful, wintry, full of the simple pleasure of a snow day on a familiar hill.
About this original
This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, created by me in my loose line and wash style using artist quality watercolour paints and pigments on 100% cotton cold press Arches fine art paper — one of the most respected surfaces in watercolour painting, prized for its texture, absorbency, and archival quality. Each piece is individually drawn and painted by hand, so small variations, natural marks and imperfections are part of the character of the original rather than flaws.
Please note that colours can appear slightly different depending on your monitor, phone or other screen settings. I do my best to show each artwork as accurately as possible.
Presentation: Unless otherwise stated, the artwork is supplied unframed. The frame shown in any photographs is for display purposes only.
