Jackie White’s Market has been a fixture of Sunderland town centre for generations — a bustling, characterful covered market full of familiar faces, the smell of fresh seafood, sizzling saveloys and that distinctive atmosphere you only ever find in a proper northern market. Much has changed over the years, but much hasn’t, and that’s exactly what makes it special.
For me, Jackie White’s is bound up in fond childhood memories — being trailed around on a busy Saturday morning with Dad and my sister, stopping at the butcher’s for a saveloy dip, taking in the sounds and smells of a place that felt entirely its own. This painting is a tribute to that feeling: the warmth, the noise, the community, and the simple joy of a morning at the market.
About this original
This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, created in my loose line and wash style using artist quality watercolour paint. The painting captures the life and energy of the market — the stalls, the people, the character — in the fluid, expressive style that defines my work. Painted on premium A3 hot press fine art paper, which gives crisp, clean lines and beautiful washes of colour.
Each piece is individually drawn and painted by hand, so small variations, natural marks and imperfections are part of the character of the original rather than flaws.
Please note that colours can appear slightly different depending on your monitor, phone or other screen settings. I do my best to show each artwork as accurately as possible.
Presentation: Unless otherwise stated, the artwork is supplied unframed. The frame shown in any photographs is for display purposes only.
