A watercolour painting of Joplings — Sunderland's much-loved department store that holds a special place in the hearts of so many who grew up in the city. For me, this is deeply personal. I have fond memories of visiting with my Dad and sister, browsing the floors and taking in the warmth of a store that felt like part of the family. My Dad was a cabinet maker, and one of his finest pieces — a kitchen — was once proudly displayed in Joplings' showroom. That memory alone makes this painting one of the most meaningful I've created.

Joplings may have closed its doors, but paintings like this keep the memories alive.

This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, created by me in my loose line and wash style using premium artist-quality watercolours on 100% cotton fine art paper. Each piece is individually drawn and painted by hand, so small variations, natural marks and imperfections are part of the character of the original rather than flaws.
